The Big Bear Theatre Project presents “The Duck Variations” – By David Mamet – A concert reading by Steve Cassling & Steve Gaghagen at “The Other Room”, 1116 West Big Bear Blvd, Big Bear City, CA … Next Door To “No Name Pizza”.

“The Duck Variations” is an early work of David Mamet’s, first performed in 1972. Mamet is the author of American Buffalo, The Water Engine, A Life In The Theatre, Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow, and Oleanna, among others, and is considered one of the great American playwrights of the last 1/2 of the 20th century.

In “variations”, Steve Cassling and Steve Gaghagen play George S. Aronovitz and Emil Varec, respectively. George and Emil are two elderly men sitting on a bench in “a park on the edge of a Big City on a Lake”. When we first meet them we have no idea if they’ve met before or if they’re friends, where they come from, what their histories are, or anything about them.

And then … the bell rings and they come out talking … about ducks!
