“The Last Five Years” by Jason Robert Brown

“The Last Five Years”

… There are two sides to every love story

The Big Bear Theatre Project
presents

“The Last Five Years”

Written and Composed by,
Jason Robert Brown.

“The Last Five Years” is an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their thirties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy (Jennifer Gail), telling her story backwards while Jamie (Steve Cassling), tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show when their two separate timelines converge.

Jason Robert Brown’s Drama Desk winner, “The Last Five Years”, has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of Time Magazine’s “10 best shows of 2001”. This remarkable production from The Big Bear Theatre Project”, will feature a live orchestra featuring the musical talents of Michael Reno (Musical Director), Peggy Baldwin, Sharon Rizzo, Linda Wilson, Josh Pool, and David Castagner. Brian Adams will serve as Production Supervisor, and the entire production is directed by Steve Cassling.

Presented in the amazingly atmospheric ambiance of The Historic Chapel of the Community Church by the Lake in Big Bear Lake, this production promises to provide an evening of beautiful theatre and music you won’t soon forget.

Cassling & Gaghagen – “The Duck Variations” by David Mamet

The Duck Variations | The Big Bear Theatre Project | Steve Cassling | Steve Gaghagen

“The Duck Variations”
… David Mamet’s hilarious, poignant, sad,
and ultimately life-affirming riff on
Mankind, Life, Death… and Ducks!

“The Other Room”
Friday, Jun. 20th 7:00 PM
Sunday, Jun. 21st 2:30 PM

The Big Bear Theatre Project presents “The Duck Variations” – By David Mamet – A concert reading by Steve Cassling & Steve Gaghagen at “The Other Room”, 1116 West Big Bear Blvd, Big Bear City, CA … Next Door To “No Name Pizza”.

“The Duck Variations” is an early work of David Mamet’s, first performed in 1972. Mamet is the author of American Buffalo, The Water Engine, A Life In The Theatre, Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow, and Oleanna, among others, and is considered one of the great American playwrights of the last 1/2 of the 20th century.

In “variations”, Steve Cassling and Steve Gaghagen play George S. Aronovitz and Emil Varec, respectively. George and Emil are two elderly men sitting on a bench in “a park on the edge of a Big City on a Lake”. When we first meet them we have no idea if they’ve met before or if they’re friends, where they come from, what their histories are, or anything about them.

And then … the bell rings and they come out talking … about ducks!

Join Us At “The Other Room” For
Mamet, Cassling, & Gaghagen,
with Beer, Wine … and PIZZA!

And Ducks! Don’t Fuhget The Freakin’ Ducks!

The Big Bear Theatre Project presents “13 – A New Musical” at The Performing Arts Center, Big Bear Lake, with opening night on Friday, October 4th and running Thursdays through Sundays through Saturday, October 19th. The show will feature a cast of 13 local teen-age performers.

13 opened on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on September 16, 2008 and ran for 137 performances. It is a grown-up story about growing up!

Julann Warren did a great job making this promo video for us. Thank you to all who have stepped up and helped us get this show on its feet.

The cast is amazing and we are so proud to have such talent on our stage!

13 the Musical Summary

The show follows 12-year old Evan Goldman as he is about to turn 13. When his parents get divorced and he’s forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana, Evan just wants to make friends and survive the school year. Easier said than done.

The star quarterback is threatening to ruin his life and his only friend, Patrice, won’t talk to him. The school freak sees an opportunity for blackmail and someone is spreading the nastiest rumors.

With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, 13 is a hilarious, high-energy musical for all ages about discovering that cool is where you find it, and sometimes where you least expect it.
